Mission: Mission 5: The Price of Paradise
Location: Transporter Room/Sickbay
Timeline: M5 MD01 (2268.07.13) 1100

The trip to Starbase Ten had been an adventurous one. Taking the time to get to read about the new batch of Constitution Class Starships had not adequately prepared the young Doctor Jeremiah McEntyre for the grand scale and awe of the Class One Heavy Cruiser.

22 decks of the most powerful and advanced technology in the fleet, 430 lives aboard her. Midway was a prime assignment for anyone lucky enough to get posted.

Jeremiah was one so lucky to be posted to her, though a bit nervous as well. This would be his first time, posted to a starship full time. He had spent the last few years on Deep Space K-19 as a surgeon, which was rewarding in its own way, but did not compare to being on the frontier, where the real action was.

The Transporter Chief nodded that the Midway was ready to receive him. Shaking off the last of his nerves, Jeremiah steps onto the pad. “Energize” In an instant, he was standing on Starbase 10, the next he was in the transporter room of the USS Midway.

Standing next to the transporter chief stood a security officer. He was fairly young and built like a tank, his blonde hair fiercly slicked. "Welcome aboard Dr. McEntyre," the young man said, "I am Ensign Novak and I've been assigned to help you get your bearings," he said.

"Thank you, Ensign. I'm glad to be aboard." Jeremiah steps off the transporter pad, his duffel on his shoulder and his data-tape with his orders in his hand. He nodded to the Ensign. "Will we be heading to sickbay first?" He asks curiously of Novak, tilting his head slightly in thought, his tail listing behind him.

"That is up to you, I am at your disposal to take you where you want to go," Peter responded, "General services will see to your dunnage."

“I’m thinking that the first logical stop should be sickbay and report to…” Jeremiah stops for a moment as he dug out a slip of paper. “Dr. Kitchener." He says as he puts the slip of paper back into his trouser pocket.

"Shall We?" He asks the Ensign with a curious purr under his voice.

The young man nodded as he escorted the Caitian doctor into the corridor. The ship was rather empty at the moment as many of the ship's crew were enjoying the facilities on Starbase 10. They stepped into the turbolift and Peter took handle and said "Deck 8."

Jeremiah shifts on his feet, he could feel the rushing of the turbolift though his body, his tail slowly swaying.

"So, how do you like serving on the Midway, Ensign?" He asked curiously, trying to make small talk as the lift rushed and zoomed through the turboshaft network.

"I enjoy it sir," Peter responded, "Ship and crew are admirable... Plenty of turnover lately, which is the service for you... But some days it's tougher than others."

“I understand completely. I’m looking forward to serving here, first draw of a Starship posting and I pull a Constitution Class. This is where the action is.” Jeremiah beams excitedly, smiling at Peter.

"Plenty of action and not much rest," Peter responded as the turbolift doors opened. He stepped outside into the corridor. "The medical division encompasses about a half of Deck 8," he said as he led the doctor towards the doors of the medical division, "Dr. Kirchner and Dr. Amato will be thrilled to have a third doctor again."

"That is most wonderful. I'm looking forward to getting to work. After spending the last couple years in residency on K-19, it'll be good to dig in to the medical mysteries of the frontier. I hear that Dr. Kitchner is quite a surgeon?"

"Living legend, especially to the Captain," Peter responded, "The Captain got him out of retirement for this voyage." He escorted the doctor to the nurse's station, "Hey Swiss," he said to the young blonde nurse who was manning the station, "This is Dr. McEntyre, the ship's newest surgeon."

"A pleasure doctor," the young woman said, standing up. "Thanks Peter, we'll take it from here, if you have to get back." she said to Ensign Novak.

Peter gave a smile to Swiss then to Dr. McEntyre, "If you need anything else sir, please let me know," he said.

Jeremiah nods kindly to the Ensign. "I will. Thank you for the escort, Ensign Novak."

He says with a smile before turning to greet the nurse. "It is a pleasure to meet you, Ms. Swiss. I'm looking foward to working together." He extends his hand in greeting.

The young nurse took the furry hand, "Thank you and it's actually Danielle Switalski, but no one can ever pronounce it so most usually say Swiss," she responded with a chuckle, "Dr. Kitchner should be out in a moment."

Jeremiah smiles, purring softly. "Well, Nurse Switalski, It'll be a pleasure to get to know you, on a professional level. Starfleet Nurses are some of the best in the Galaxy and that's coming from a son of a Starfleet Medical Officer."

The young woman blushed and chuckled, "Thank you doctor," she responded, "Maybe you can get us a pizza party or something."

Jeremiah chuckles at that. "I'll see what I can do." He says with a big smile.

"Thanks a bunch," she responded, returning the smile.

Marc Kitchner was ears deep in a research project and he was crossing from the lab to the main medical area. "Swiss, I was supposed to have a case of Methuen salts and some other raw chemicals? Have they come onboard?" He asked.

"They are in the lab supply room. They are on the left as you go in, eye level ... my eye level. There were three medium large boxes, the one had a blue tag on it." Swiss responded. "Dr. K ... Before you go running, we have a new member of the team checking in." She all but had to grab his arm. "Jeremiah McEntyre ... Marc Kitchner ... Marc Kitchner ... Jeremiah McEntyre." Swiss said making a quick introduction.

"Oh ... " Marc said with a sigh. "Hello." Marc said extending a hand. The two men shook hands. "Do you have your orders? To tell you the truth I wasn't expecting a new officer to be assigned." McEntyre handed over the envelope with his orders, Kitchner quickly gave them a read. "General surgeon ... replacing Doctor Slattery ..." Marc put his glasses in the sleeve pocket of his lab coat before finishing his though. "Well Doctor, welcome aboard Midway." The three chatted for several minutes. "Swiss, will you show Dr. McEntyre the store, and make sure to introduce him to Dr. Amato and Nurse Jenkins."

"Certainly Dr. K." Danny said with a slight smile. "Are you heading back to the lab?" She asked.

"Yes. Unless you need me for something?" Marc said curiously.

"No, just incase ... " She said.

Jeremiah smiles, still wearing his own glasses, blind without them, a necessity for being allergic to Retinax V. "I look forward to working with you, Doctor Kitchner." He said before Kitchner was returning to the lab. A curious purr coming from Jeremiah. It had been the briefest of meetings with a new direct supervisor he'd had but knows there will be plenty of time to get to know the CMO of the ship in the coming time that Jeremiah will serve aboard Midway.

"You as well Doctor." Kitchner said nodding slightly. He stopped just as he reached the door. "Swiss I know Dr Amato will probably ask this. Let's give Dr. McEntyre the rest of this week to get settled in and unpacked before we go back to a rotating schedule." Marc said knowing a few days wouldn't make that much of a difference.

"I'll tell him." Danny said with a nod.
