With the loss of four Constitution-class starships within two years, Starfleet rushed to complete all starships under construction. Launched six months ahead of schedule, the Midway set off on her intended shakedown cruise. However, an emergency situation near "The Triangle" region of space presses her into service.

After rescuing the hostages from the clutches of the dangerous Captain Arriana D'Tal and her crew of Orion Pirates, the Midway sets in to Starbase 10 to offload the recovered colonists, make repairs and take some much needed rest.

After arriving on Starbase 10, the Midway was given its first official assignment namely to transport Federation Diplomat St. John Talbot to Nimbus III, the newly established Planet of Galactic Peace. Negotiations with the Klingon Empire are to commence upon arrival as Talbot takes permanent residence on the planet. The Federation Council is concerned the Romulans may intervene to prevent the project from continuing.

Following ferrying St. John Talbot, the Federation Diplomat to Nimbus III, the Midway is given a new task, once Captain Faust had been awaiting. Unsatisfied with the report submitted by the U.S.S. Enterprise, the Midway has been dispatched to determine the fate of the U.S.S. Defiant and her crew. Ride along with the Midway as she travels through space and time to track down the elusive ghost ship.

After traveling through the interphase from the parallel universe, the Midway sets in to Starbase 10 for repairs and crew transfers. Unfortunately the R&R is cut short by an outbreak of Regulan Bloodworms on New Paradise, a Federation protectorate bear the Klingon sphere of influence. A vital shipment of Xenoderm, the only known treatment for the parasite was hijacked by Orion Pirates. The Midway is quickly dispatched to recover the shipment but interstellar piracy is only part of this story...

After successfully delivering the lifesaving Xenoderm to New Paradise, the Starship Midway is recalled to Earth by Admiral Nogura, Chief of Star Fleet Operations. A colony near the site of the Starship Defiant's disappearance has destabilized, turning its population to dust.
