Computer, begin log.

I met with Ensign Carter Page today in the Port Nacelle, finalizing repairs after the battle. I learned we were in the Mirror Universe briefly. The USS Midway had attempted to save Clanfolk on the USS Defiant, but .. ultimately failed. I learned that Clan on the ship extends farther in Starfleet than it does in Clan Ezazzan. I was humbled today in my thoughts.

Carter also assisted me with understanding the fear or, perhaps, resentment I've seen in a few of my crew and peers lately. I have been informed that the Gorn Hegemony attacked the Federation World of Cestus III. I have since read up on its history. Captain Tiberius Kirk, one of my heroes and inspirations for joining Starfleet, apparently confronted a Gorn commander there. His ...

... his words about my kind bore some hurt to me. I still respect him, especially after reviewing the atrocities the Hegemony committed. Especially after remembering the warning words of my Father so long ago about them, and why Clan Ezazzan left the Hegemony.

I now understand fully why the crew have expressed such negativity, fear, resentment, and even outright avoidance. I also understand why they work with me. My uniform is the bridge that spans the gap between our cultures. I represent the best side of the Gorn to them. Carter helped me understand this, and for that I took accountability for furthering that understanding and peace.

I will represent Clan Ezazzan properly. For Gorn, for all free Gorn. For the Gorn that left the old ways. For the Gorn that embrace the new, the Federation, our new home. I will represent us all in honor.

I have to contact my mate now. Her words are equally full of wisdom.
