Mission 6: Echoes of the Interphase
Location: Earth
Timeline: M6 MD03 0900
Azrel and Lucy (along with Lieutenant Miyake, of whom Lucy had convinced to tag along- in her words, she "needed some fresh air") had beamed down to the centre of San Francisco, just a short walk from Starfleet Headquarters. It was a beautiful bright sunny day, with a slight breeze and a temperature of around 77°F (25°C).
Aze took in the sights of the tall shining metal skyscrapers and the people all going about their business. The light breeze blew gently through the trees dotted about the busy metropolis.
She was till in her uniform as she decided not to bother changing, as she might need to visit Headquarters at some point that day.
Along with her stood Lucy, her hair tied up in two short low pigtails. Also still in her uniform, she smiled at the sights of the city. "Well, what do you think?"
"It's still as overwhelming as it was when I was here for the academy. There a few changes here and there." Azrel replied. She could tell she was getting the odd stare from the locals. With there being not many Trill in Starfleet, they were still a rare sight on Earth.
"If you think that's overwhelming, wait until you see the rest of America," Shinobu remarked as she lightly arched her back. "There was this one semester where I got invited out to a weekend at Daytona Beach; we hit a roadhouse the first night, threw back a couple of drinks, and the next thing I know, I'm lying face down in a ditch..."
She shook her head. "Luckily, nothing of any real value was taken, but I pretty much hightailed it back to San Francisco after the whole ordeal. True story, in case you were wondering."
"Did someone spike your drinks or did you have way too many? I can't say I have experienced anything like that myself. I do like the odd drink but I rarely get inebriated. "
Aze commented.
"Nah, I'm fairly certain it was my fault for not drinking in moderation," Shinobu admitted . "Not like I'm ever doing that again..."
"I wish I had stories like that to share. When I was at the Academy I was known for my all night study sessions," Lucy smiled. "Back then I had something to prove."
"I know exactly what you mean. So did I. Being from a race that is still quite rare in Starfleet, even today, I had to prove to others, as well as myself, that I had what it took to be in Starfleet. I achieved two of the main goals I set myself. Graduate from Starfleet and be joined. The third goal, might take some extra work and a whole lot of luck "
Lucy smiled, she knew exactly how the Trill felt. "San Francisco is nice and all. But I'm used to my own country, even for me this city is far too big and overpopulated."
"I can agree with you on that one Lucy. Even the city near my home on Trill is a third the size of San Francisco. Where are you from? Should we visit your home country?" Aze asked.
"I'm from a little Island nation known as Great Britain." Lucy replied. "Originally it was made up of four separate countries, so my origins are from it's largest, England." She paused for a moment. "It has a rich history and culture. Although nothing beats the beautiful green fields and rolling hills in summer, crystal clear waters and country lanes. Of course it has its cities too, but they're much older and smaller. Apart from London, that still holds the title of one of the biggest cities in Europe."
"Oh, my previous host, Torbin, once visited a city in England called Sheffield. Quite a beautiful city from what I can recall from his memories. I would be up for visiting England. "
"I was born and raised just north of there. Near a city called York." Lucy smiled. "Luckily for us, we can catch a fast transport there from the civilian transport hub here in San Francisco."
"York, or Jórvík if you use the city's old Norse name or Eboracum from Roman times. I would love to do that and visit York. Torbin briefly visited York, in particular the street called Whip-Ma-Whop-Ma Gate." Aze commented.
A small giggle escaped the blondes mouth. "I don't know why, but I always found that street name funny. Even as a child." A smile spread over her face. "It'll be nice to visit home again. I haven't been back since I..." she paused briefly. "Left... For the Academy.". A sense of something darker hung over her like a cloud for a brief second. "But, I don't have any regrets."
"Then let's go to York. " Aze responded with a smile.
"As long as we don't run into my father, which I doubt we will. We'll be fine." Lucy said. "We'll, Shinobu? What do you think?"
Shinobu tilted her head to one side. "If you're asking my opinion, I think you should've thought about that before we beamed down to the far side of the planet."
Lucy simply huffed and shool the security officers comment off.
"Oh, if you're not comfortable about going incase that happens we don't have to. " Aze replied, concerned for her colleague's wellbeing.
Lucy waved a hand. "Nah! Screw that jerk! I'm not letting him ruin my life any longer! Plus, I want to go! He never leaves the house anyways, I doubt he's changed at all. Plus if I see him, I get the first smack!"
"Fair enough. I won't pry into the finer details. Let's head to York. "
Aze felt her dress get tugged. She turned around to see a small boy, around 8 years old.
"Hello." She greeted him
"Um are you a Trill? " He asked nervously.
She squatted down so she was at his height. "I am." She replied.
"We are learning about the Trill in school." The young boy told her.
"Oh, that's wonderful. I'm Azrel Vox. What's your name? " She asked
"James Lucas." He replied.
"It's really nice to meet you James. I hope you are enjoying learning about my people. Tell your teacher that you met me today. " Aze told the young boy
"Oh I will. Thanks." He replied. He headed off to join his parents.
"How lovely was that.?" Aze commented to her colleagues.
Lucy smiled. "Quite. Any bets you just accidently recruited a new Starfleet Officer," she joked. "However it's nice to know that they're learning about other species. Diversity and peaceful co-operation is part of what we're all here for."
"Oh there wasn't anything accidental about it. There's a good chance they will be part of the future of Starfleet or something connected to it and yes that's exactly what we are all here for and why I joined. "
"Well, if we're going to do this. Let's get going!" Lucy looked at them both. "However, we'll stick out like a sore thumb in these uniforms, maybe we should find a clothes shop? Get our 'girly' on?"
"Absolutely, lead on. " Aze replied.
[About an hour later - clothes shop]
Lucy pulled back the purple curtain. "Well, what do you think?" She asked striking a pose. Her outfit comprised of a light blue v-necked shirt, slightly cropped to reveal her navel. A black skirt, brown belt with copper buckle and a light cream coloured zip up jacket.
"Hmm... how do I put this politely..." Shinobu surmised. "So, you remember that skimpy outfit the Orions dressed you up in when they abducted you? That; that is precisely what I think it looks like."
"Nah, not as revealing or as fancy." Lucy replied.
"Definitely you. You look great. I think I need to change too. As comfortable as my uniform is, I need to be more casual for this trip. " Aze commented.
"Well! Go grab something!" Lucy smirked. "Or do you want me to dress you up?" She asked in a teasing if not playful tone. A little glimmer in her eyes told anyone that she might be enjoying this too much.
You know what, let's have a bit of fun. Go ahead, dress me up. " Aze replied with a grin on her face.
With a cheeky smirk Lucy pushed the Trill into one of the changing rooms. "Let's get you sorted out!"
"Geez, give the poor girl some space," Shinobu sighed.
From behind the curtain of the changing room..."I'm not sure about this. You really think this suits me?" Dee called out. She nervously pulled back the curtains and stepped out.
She wore a white v-necked shirt, revealing a little more cleavage than Aze normally would. It was slightly cropped so revealed her navel. A dark blue skirt, black belt with silver buckle and a light blue coloured zip up jacket.
"Be honest with me here. " She asked.
Lucy giggled a little. "Yeah. It's more my style than yours, but I think it looks cute on you." She said. "I think you'll rock it, plus we can see your Trill spots. That's got to be a feature!"
"But speaking of cute... I think it's Shinobu's time..." she said perking out from the curtain a mischievous look on her face. She spotted Shinobu "What do you think Aze? How about we team up for this one?"
"My spots are always a feature and yes I'm up for a team up on this one. I'm still not sure this much cleavage is a good idea though. "
Shinobu frowned. "Don't you dare; I can pick my own wardrobe, thank you very much."
Lucy waggled a finger. "Tsk tsk tsk. You'll never attract a man that way. I don't know how it works for Trills, but Human men. They enjoy the view. It makes them want to see more. It worked for me with Captain Fau..." she cut herself off and suddenly cleared her throat. "Never mind..." she blushed. "I think it suits you. Shows your confidence and all..."
"Nope, nope, you're not getting out of it that easily, Commander," Shinobu quickly redirected the conversation. "You made that bed, now you've gotta lay in it."
"Wait what? You and the captain? I mean I did have dinner with him a few times. But I'm guessing there is more you're not letting on about here. " Aze replied. Her curiosity was peaked.
"No, I mean yes, I mean... I'm not too sure. Its all a little bit confusing you know?" Lucy said rather flustered. "Its nothing I swear... kinda? Maybe?" She stood there trying hard not to imitate the same colour as a freshly cooked lobster, yet ultimately failing at doing so.
"So, is that your roundabout way of saying it is?" Shinobu remarked.
"I'm not saying anything..." Lucy said going bright red.
"I didn't meant to pry and make you uncomfortable. He is a handsome man, I must admit. Look you don't have to talk about it right now, maybe if you want to, later over a drink, perhaps." Aze replied. She didn't intend to put her colleague on the spot.
Lucy smiled still as bright as a tomato. "Thanks. It's not that I'm not denying it, it's just... you know... its not public and our positions don't help. Not to mention he's very Catholic. So anything that 'happens' is very shush shush and all..."
"I understand. Catholic, that's the Roman Catholic Church, a major branch of Christianity, a human religion, correct? Forgive me but I am not all that familiar with religious beliefs on Earth. "
Lucy nodded. "Neither am I if I'm honest. Religion although present on Earth is not as prominent as it used to be." She explained. "Most old Earth religions aren't practised anymore. However I do respect those who still do of course."
"Of course. Shall we get moving so you can show around? "
"We still need to grab Shinobu's outfit." Lucy said turning their attention to the security officer. "You ready Shinobu. We're going to girly you up!"
Aze rubbed her hands together with glee. "Brace yourself."
"Oh, hell no!" Shinobu squawked, putting her hands up defensively. "You two stay away from me!"
"Oh come on, don't be a party pooper. Get with the fun. " Aze replied
Lucy trotted over to Shinobu and gently took her wrist giving her a huge innocent smile. "You know. There are days that we won't force you into things right." She told her calmly.
"However. Today is not one of those days!" She smirked mischievously as she pulled her towards the changing rooms.
Aze stood back. She hadn't been on a shore leave quite like this one, it was exciting.
