Mission: Mission 4: Through a Glass, Darkly
Location: Conference room deck 12
Timeline: M4 MD10 (2268.07.19) 1200

Marc was in one of the lesser used conference rooms trying to make some semblance of the latest batch of test results for his continued research project.

He and Lucy Heartfilia had been having a meal together one or two times a week since Marc had first been transported aboard. Were they dating? Probably not. Marc was old enough to be Lucy's grandfather in comparison, but they enjoyed one another's company, and it indirectly kept one another's ear tuned into the ships rumor mill.

The door opened and Lucy stepped in pushing a small cart.

"Afternoon Doctor," Lucy greeted as she wheeled the cart over to the table. She placed a plate down in front of the older doctor, it was covered by a simple dome shaped lid. She then also placed one down in the chair opposite, which she then slid down into.

"I convinced the galley crew to cook us something traditional. Good old English Bangers, Mash and Beef Gravy," she said as she lifted the domed lid. It revealed a good amount of mashed potatoes, with pork sausages sticking out of it topped with brown gravy. A knife and fork was neatly attached to the side of the plate.

Marc reached over and picked up a smaller lid that covered a greenish brown ball twice the size of his fist "Do I eat it or take it to the lab for analysis?" He said looking at the young woman.

"That dear Doctor is peas pudding. I may not look like it at all but you do in fact eat it. It goes great with the gravy." Lucy said grinning widely as she sat down. "Trust me."

"What's to wash it down?" He asked questionably.

"Well, since we're technically on duty, we have non-alcoholic cider," Lucy said as she reached down and produced two bottles of alcohol free apple cider. She opened them and placed them on the table.

"So," Lucy began. "What's the gossip down on the lower decks?" she asked curiously. She began to slice through the sausages with her knife and fork, chopping them into smaller edible sections.

"Ooooo the latest rumors I've heard .... One of the senior staff is pregnant. An apparently the attending physician ... whom is not me ... has the bedside manner similar to a block of deuterium." Marc said after swallowing a mouth full of potatoes and gravy

Lucy paused for a moment. "You said that one of the Senior staff is pregnant?" she asked, she needed clarification. "We're not a Civilian Ship, we have no facilities for children aboard this ship..."

"Are these rumors true Doctor? As the Chief Medical Officer surely you should know?" Lucy asked.

"Pass the salt." Marc said. "I swear no matter what you do to potatoes, they always taste bland to me." Lucy handed him the shaker. "I haven't had time enough to confirm any of that. But seeing as how there are all of three members of the fairer sex on staff...." He said with a shrug. "Plus it would very be unethical of me to ask the patient without asking the attending physician first." He dug a spoon into the peas pudding, and then tapped it off into the gravy that was on his plate. "You're right. The gravy is definitely needed. Interesting texture for sure." He took a swallow of the cider. "Anyway it's either Vox or Thraxina, because you would have come to either Mike Amato or myself. However, I'm going to stop myself right there."

Lucy sighed again. "It needs to be confirmed doctor. For their own safety. We can't stop people from pursuing relationships or sexual activities, however like I said earlier, this ship is no place for children."

"Space is no place for the young in general." Marc said cutting into a chunk of sausage. "That's just an opinion." He said chewing. "If we needed to I could handle things easily enough. While I'm no obstetrician by trade, I have delivered a baby or two in my time." He put a fork full of sausage in his mouth. "So what's the latest news you've heard?"

"We would have to run this via Captain Faust. It's his ship after all. Civilians are not normally on Starfleet ships, however this ship is far from normal." Lucy replied.

Marc chuckled. "Oh before I forget to ask you have you talked to Toby Dienstag in the past day or two? I suggested that he come and see you."

"I've spoken to him quite a bit. I do give him orders..." Lucy said. "You'll have to be more specific."

"He stopped by the office the other day. The poor boy feels his talents are being squashed in the lab. He is a certified bridge officer, and he'd like to shift from one to the other more." Mark said pouring himself another glass of cider. "I quietly reminded him there are only so many hours in a day. Since personnel and the sciences are primarily under your per view versus mine I suggested you two talk." Mark wiped up the last of the gravy and peas pudding with the side of his knife. "I was hoping you could set him up with a regular shift on the bridge. Even if it's only once a week."

"I'll see what I can do," Lucy replied, flashing him a small smile. "After all, I think he can do so much more."

Marc nodded. "Thanks Luce."

=A= Doctor Kitchner, to Sickbay ... Doctor Kitchner to Sickbay. =A= Came from the speaker above the table.

Marc grabbed the folder with his research. "Gotta go. Thanks for lunch."

Lucy smiled. "No problem Doctor. Any time."
